Become A Christian
There are many opinions about Jesus in our cultures with its diverse views. Of course, there can only be one understanding of Jesus and so it’s important to know who Jesus really is.
Who is Jesus? He said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really know Me, you will know the Father.” (John 14:6).
Jesus is very important to mankind, because He claims He is the way for us to be made acceptable and right with God. Not only has Jesus made a way for mankind to come to God and go to Heaven, but He’s made this way available to ALL people! He said, “Come to Me all who are weary and heavy-laden” (Matt. 11:28), and “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.” (John 3:16) It doesn’t matter what background, religion, or non-religion that you’ve come from Jesus has made a way for anyone and everyone to be made right with God!
So, how do we come to Jesus and be made right with God? Aka, become a Christian?
First, we have to actually want to come to Jesus! The Bible says, “the wages of sin is death”. (Rom. 3:23) If we’ve sinned and broken any of God’s moral standards, according to Him we’ve sinned and earned eternal death. If we come to Him in our sin, this makes us unacceptable to God as we have broken His standards. This is why we need Jesus!
Enter in….what Jesus actually did when He lived on the earth. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree […]” (1 Pet. 2:24). When Jesus died on the Cross, He actually suffered the penalty of human sin. He then uttered the words, “It is finished” referring to paying, in full, the eternal death we earned. He fully paid the penalty for human sin! Then three days later, God raised Jesus from the dead to prove to us that Jesus actually indeed did pay, in full, the penalty for human sin. Now whoever comes to Jesus, can have their sins removed and forgiven making a person fully acceptable to God! And we are acceptable to God, this means we can come to Him and know Him personally! Amazing, isn’t it?
So, how do we come to Jesus, then?
The Bible says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,‘ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:9).
If you make Jesus your Lord, meaning the highest authority in your life, trust Him to be your Savior from your sins, and believe God raised Jesus from the dead… then “you will be saved.” —meaning, you are a Christian!
But you’re thinking, “Wait, a second! That’s it?! Don’t I have to clean my life up, prove myself and be on my best behaviour before I call myself a Christian?”
God loves the world—that’s you and me! Jesus died for sinners, again that’s you and me! We don’t earn God’s love and salvation; He freely gives it to us!
This is what a Christian is! They know they aren’t perfect and need God’s grace and Jesus’ Cross to take away their sins. When we bask in God’s grace, it makes us want to obey Him from our hearts, and then our lives begin to change!
